Hand Addressed Envelopes Get Opened!

Do you know what the most difficult thing about direct mail is?  Do you think it is writing good copy, or flashy artwork, or a great headline?  No, the biggest problem with direct mail is getting your piece read.  Most people go through their mail over the trash can.  What do you need to do that makes sure your mail piece gets opened and not thrown away?  Put it in a hand addressed envelope, with a 41-cent first class stamp.  A bulk mail stamp won’t cut it.  A printed label won’t cut it either, both of them are trademarks for junk mail, and 9 times out of 10 it will get thrown away.  Shown below is a sample of our envelopes.  They all have real, handwritten addresses, not printed to look like handwriting.  They have simple return address labels.  They have 41-cent first class stamps.  When people get this in the mail, they think it is from someone they must know, because who else would hand address a letter.  IT GETS OPENED!!!!   After that it is the letter inside that needs to stand out well enough to get read, but with the envelope, it will get OPENED!  And that is the first step to a successful direct mail campaign.
